We love that we can transport people to exotic destinations, or allow them to escape the worries of their everyday lives with just a few calming breaths. We use various essential oils in many of our facial and body treatments, and we also infuse our saunas and steam rooms with scents that help people relax and enjoy some precious “me” time. There is nothing better than the smell of a freshly cut orange. But in addition to its amazing scent, citrus oils such as orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit have healing properties than can seduce the mind, body and soul. Citrus is cleansing and purifying, which is why you’ll find it in so many products around the house. It also helps to clarify the mind, improve the mood and wash away negative energy. We love adding a few drops of orange or tangerine oil to a warm washcloth and laying it over our face before bed to breathe in its relaxing properties after a long day.
As one of the most popular aromatherapy scents, it’s easy to see why calming lavender has made its way into so many laundry detergents, cleaning products and soaps. Lavender is a godsend for physical ailments, as it has been known to alleviate aches and pains, reduce migraine pain and keep inflammation at bay. It does wonders for cuts, burns and bug bites and is also known to reduce stress, anxiety, nervous tension and depression. We store sachets of the dried herb in our drawers to keep that comforting scent with us all day long.
Bright, spicy and full of spunk, peppermint is another brilliant essential oil that can work wonders on your mind game. If you need an energy boost or are just feeling tired, a whiff of peppermint will make you feel lifted without the come down of a sugar rush. In addition to being a mega mood lifter, peppermint is also said to help people who have digestive issues and irritable bowel syndrome. Along with eucalyptus, peppermint is popular in the spa as it helps to ease sore muscles, unclog sinuses and reduce respiratory ailments. At home, we add a few drops to a sink of hot water for a calming facial treatment that opens up our pores and unblocks stuffy winter noses.
