Body by Brooklyn and the Chocolate Factory's Role in the Clinton Hill Neighborhood
275 Park Avenue in Clinton Hill, the beautiful brick building that now houses Body by Brooklyn, was once a lucrative chocolate factory that produced and distributed Tootsie Rolls for the entire country. In 1996, real estate developer Alex Goldin and his wife Mira purchased the deserted chocolate factory and converted 275 Park Avenue into the first luxury loft apartment rentals in the area.
Mira Goldin was passionate about making the ground floor space in 275 Park Avenue her own and tapped architect Moon Kim to help her create Body by Brooklyn, a 10,000 square-foot spa and lounge that combines the charm of popular Eastern European bathhouses and West Coast spa amenities and services with the simplicity of modern metropolitan design. The spa, complete with café and bar opened for business in April 2006.
Body by Brooklyn is a unique spa by any standards, embracing Korean, American, European and Russian influences to create the best relaxation experience Brooklyn has to offer. The spa has not only encouraged a number of other local businesses to open up in the area, but Body by Brooklyn continues to support the community by purchasing goods and services provided by Brooklynites and particularly Clinton Hill residents and business owners.
Additionally, Body by Brooklyn has become a neighborhood meeting place, where the community comes to gather for elegant cocktail parties, community networking functions and even live jazz on Friday nights. It's a place where Brooklyn movers and shakers can mingle with young entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and foster relationships, encouraging the continual growth and rise of Clinton Hill. It's also a place that looks to partner with and service other local businesses.
